Dumaguete City Universities
Other than the City of Gentle People, Dumaguete is also known as
"the university town" or
"the center of learning in the south"
because of its seven universities and colleges, where students from all over the
province, so as the neighboring regions, enroll for tertiary education. The city also has 12 elementary schools
and 9 secondary ones. An estimated of more than 30, 000 of the city's
population (102, 165 as of the 2000 census), comprises of the students
alone.
The city's ambience and tranquil, moderate way of
life make it conducive to learning and intellectual pursuits. Dumaguete has
become a melting pot of students, professionals, artists, scholars and the
literati coming from different parts of the country and the world.

Silliman University
Among
these universities is the first American and Protestant school in the
Philippines, the Silliman University.

rooms that are not only used as classrooms, but also as sites for numerous

Silliman University is in
Dumaguete
City in Central Philippines, an hour by plane and a day by boat from Manila. The
front of the 65-hectare campus faces the sea to the east. Viewed from the
sea, the campus is backdropped by the beautiful Cuernos de Negros. Students and
teachers from other parts of the country and of the world have long enjoyed the
amiable environment of this locality. This meeting together of various cultures
has enriched academic life in the university over the years.

NORSU
has 2 main campuses within Dumaguete City and 7 external campuses within the
Negros Oriental province. It was formerly known as the Central Visayas
Polytechnic College (CVPC). Its Main Campus I is found in Kagawasan Avenue,
Capitol Area of the city, in front of the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park.

NORSU is known as the school
for poor but deserving students, because of its low-cost tuition and

The Foundation
University (FU)
Foundation
University programs are accredited not only by national accrediting agencies
such as PAASCU and PACU-COA, but also
internationally such as the IAU. This means that the credits
and credentials a student can earn at FU are transferable and valid for further
study anywhere in the world.

Foundation University is also a known sports
contender for local, regional and national tournaments. The student players are
known as Greyhounds, dubbing the university
as the "Home of the Greyhounds, Home of the Champions." FU
gained national recognition when the Greyhounds (men's volleyball) team won the
National Beach Volley University Challenge, and the basketball team ranked 4th
in the National University Games (UNIGAMES).

(St. Louis School), Don Bosco (St. Louis High School), Dumaguete Christian

High School, Dumaguete City Science High School, Dumaguete Chung Hua High
School, Holy Cross High School, Junob High School, Living Word Christian School
and Negros Oriental High School.

St. Paul University
St. Paul University Philippines - one
of 42 schools owned, managed, and operated by the Sisters of St. Paul of
Chartres in the Philippines was founded in 1907. It started as a
PAROCHIAL SCHOOL attached to the cathedral. It was originally named
COLEGIO DE SAN PABLO, then as COLEGIO DEL SAGRADO
CORAZON DE JESUS, then still later as SACRED
HEART ACADEMY.

The College
department started in 1947 with a two-year ETC (Elementary Teacher’s
Certificate) Course. After producing its first batch of college graduates, the
school became ST. PAUL COLLEGE OF TUGUEGARAO in 1949.
The school was granted university status by the
Philippine government in 1982. With a steady progress through the years, the
university provided new facilities and opened additional courses in response to
the needs of the region, country, and the world.
St. Paul University Philippines earned its niche among the global centers of
learning: the first Catholic university in Asia and the first private university
in the Philippines to be ISO 9001 certified. In 2002, the university was granted
Full Autonomy Status by the Philippine Commision on Higher Education (CHED).
Today, SPUP GRADUATES are found serving in various professions, occupying
responsible positions in government, non–government organizations, private
business, corporations, in the Church, in different parts of the country and in
the world. As the premier educational institution, SPUP shall continue to lead

AMA
The AMA Education Group is considered as one of the fastest growing
educational institutions in the Philippines with an annual
completion rate of 3000-4000 graduates. However this institution is
also one of the lowest in terms of student loyalty with less than
100 participants attending the alumni homecoming and other
extra-curricular programs.
