Information
Tanjay
The
5th class city in the province of Negros Oriental is Tanjay.
Tanjay City has a
population of 70,169 people in 14,156 households. It has a land area of
478.30 km². The city itself is a very diverse one. It has a wide collection
of flora & fauna found in its hinterlands. It also has myriads of
tourist
spots that just needs development. Its culture has its own unique that can't
be found elsewhere. The city has evolved for the better. This City is very
progressive among the cities of Negros Oriental.
Mostly, the highest
concentration of professionals towards its population is in this city and
produces most of the musical talents for the province. It is best known, moreover, for two other proud-makers: the
portable feast "bud-bud sa Tanjay", which has birthed a
Bud-bud Festival due
to the popularity of its glutinous delicacy;
Saulog Festival of
Tanjay, a festival, with an 1814 ancestry, revived in the
1980's to enliven the fiesta. Sugarcane plantations can be found all over
the city, as well as shimmering bangus (milkfish) ponds.
Every friday night there's a ballroom dancing at the plaza of Tanjay City
draws aficionados from as far as in the City of Dumaguete.
The only navigable river from
Dumaguete to Manjuyod in the
north is the Tanjay river.
