Dumaguete City,
fondly referred to as the City of Gentle People, is the capital,
principal seaport and largest city of Negros Oriental (formerly Negros
Oriental). It is known for the friendliness and warmth of her people,
the "Dumagueteños".

- Dumaguete is also
dubbed as
the university town,
because of its universities and colleges which converge students from

census, it has a total population of 102, 265, comprising 9.05% of the
province's total population. Surveys have shown that Dumaguete is a
male-dominated area because its male population is 6% higher than its
female population.

LANGUAGE/DIALECT - Majority of the
population speak English fluently and have a comprehending knowledge of
Spanish. Dialects spoken are Cebuano (Visaya), Tagalog and Ilonggo. The
latter being the tongue of Negros Occidental residents.

CLIMATE - Dumaguete City has two seasons
--- the dry and the wet seasons. The wet
season covers the period from June to November while the dry season starts from
December to May (the hottest being April and May). For the past years, the
average maximum temperature is 34.31ºC
and the average minimum temperature is 22.85ºC.
On the other hand, the relative humidity of the locality is 78.75%,
relatively highest during the month of December. The city is seldom
visited by destructive typhoons and related calamities.
